All The Things I Love About Little You
Oh my little Blaise. You little, perfect wonder. I heard your first cries as you were being born because I accidentally walked in on your home birth (ask your mom and dad about this one day for a laugh). I just couldn’t wait to see your face. Your beautiful tiny face.
And what a face you have. You weren’t even puffy or alien looking like some newborns. You already had the sweetest face.
I’ve spent the last year bragging about you, like you’re my own son. Admittedly, most people don’t want to see pictures of your baby nephew. But I was showing everyone. And everyone would say, “wow, that is a really cute baby.” Or something similar.
There’s already so many things I love about you. You have your mothers playful smile. You have my brothers thinking gaze. When you laugh, your left eye is a little bit more squinty than your right eye. My eyes do this too.
Blaise, you are likely the gentlest baby I’ve ever seen. I didn’t even know babies could be so gentle. I love the way you study things. Like you’re thinking really hard. Like you’re writing stuff down in your head, topped with wispy blond hairs. Some of the faces you make remind me of Baby Yoda. I just can’t resist kissing you when I see you. I love how you are starting to know me and you just offer your cheek to me now.
The way to start to move and dance to Motown and reggae is beyond adorable. The music just brings your groove on. I hope you never lose this. I hope music always has an impact on you. People who love to dance to music are happier people than those who don’t. Trust me on this.
I love how you wave to me, hello and goodbye. I love how you give your mom big squeeze hugs. I love how you laugh at your dad’s weird sound effects. I love how to try to say words. I love how much you already love the water. Just seeing you makes me happy. When we’re apart, I’m missing you.
I hope you always feel how much you are loved. Because I already know our family well, I know your life is going to be filled with so much laughter, even in the face of adversity. Like the farm you’re growing up on, you will grow and just by being you, give us so many gifts of playful memories.
I love you, Blaise. And I think because of you, now my brother will understand fully how much I love him too.
